1. What is mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is a technique using microinjections to reduce and remove fat. Medication is injected into the mesoderm, the layer of fat and connective tissue under the skin. Mesotherapy is used for a variety of purposes, including overall weight loss, spot weight reduction, cellulite reduction, hair loss, scar revision and wrinkle elimination. Mesotherapy is also used to correct unevenness, lumps, or divots that develop after liposuction.
The medications that are used in mesotherapy melt the fat beneath the skin and shrink the fat cells. The fat dissolves and is excreted by the kidneys and the bowel without any changes in your bowel habits.

2. How does mesotherapy work to reduce cellulite?
Cellulite is caused by connective tissue bands that hold down the skin and trap the fat, which results in the "dimpling" effect. The medications used in mesotherapy destroy the connective tissue bands and melt the trapped fat, creating a smooth, dimple-free appearance.

3. How many treatments are required before I see results?
Results differ with each patient. Some patients see results after one treatment session while others may require four to five treatments to see results. Typically, the patient's clothing will become looser and friends and family will tell the patient they appear thinner. You will work with a doctor to create a program that will get the best results for you.

4. What are the side effects?
Side effects are generally limited to bruising. The bruises usually fade within one week. The procedure generally takes 30 minutes and requires no preparation or recovery time. No bandages or dressings are required. The majority of patients experience minimal discomfort with mesotherapy. For those with lower pain thresholds, a numbing cream or painkillers can be used.

5. How long do the benefits of mesotherapy last?
Treatment areas will remain fat free of as long as the patient maintains healthy living habits. The usual tenets of moderation in diet and a prudent mixture of aerobic and anaerobic exercise are exceedingly helpful. Treatments for cellulite may require maintenance on a six-month basis.

6. Is mesotherapy different from liposuction?
Mesotherapy is extraordinarily different than liposuction. Mesotherapy involves no anesthesia and no surgical risk (since it is not surgery), and it requires no recovery time. Mesotherapy also removes the fat from the adipose cells without completely destroying them, resulting in a natural appearance. If you gain weight after having mesotherapy, the fat will simply return to the treated area, unlike liposuction, where fat can start to occur in places that had been thin in the past.

7. What are the benefits of mesotherapy over surgical techniques such as liposuction?
Liposuction does not treat cellulite and may make the cellulite more prominent. Mesotherapy treats cellulite directly and the results are a smoother skin and skin surface. Mesotherapy reduces fat in specific areas (a common example is the "love handle" area). The adipose and fat deposits flush out of areas and the body does not gain the weight back, which often happens after liposuction. Mesotherapy is a non-surgical procedure. It does not require a hospital admission, general anesthesia, or loss of productive post procedure time.

8. Who can have mesotherapy?
Healthy adults between the ages of 20 and 70 may have mesotherapy for body sculpting and weight loss, cellulite treatment, and skin rejuvenation. Mesotherapy is not recommended for people with moderately severe heart disease, diabetes, or those on blood thinners or arrhythmia medications, people who are immune-compromised, organ transplant recipients or pregnant women. Every patient should undergo a thorough examination to evaluate their ability to use mesotherapy safely.
